How to sign up for Google adsense and make money using it!!

One of the latest online money making strategies is to use Google’s AdSense and or to use Google’s AdWord programs. Each of these programs has the potential to improve your cash flow, however, you need to know how these programs work before you can make a realistic estimate about the kind of money you will be able to earn, and before you can determine which program(s) is/are best for you. This article will go over the basics of both Google marketing programs including what you need to do to join, how the pay structure is designed, and what you need to do to be successful in each program.

AdSense is a marketing affiliate program where you place specially selected Google-generated advertisements on your web page that reflects the information and content of your web page. In return for hosting these ads you are paid based on the number of ad images, click throughs, or purchases made because of your web page.

Signing Up for AdSense

To become an affiliated member of AdSense you first will be required to fill out an application. You will be asked if you will be setting a business or personal account, and what country you reside in. This will help determine what types of ads will be most appropriate for your website. The second category of application questions addresses the URL location of your website and the language your site is in. You then select what Google products that you are interested in. You can select AdSense for content, AdSense for search, or both. Next you enter your personal information including contact information, and payee information. Finally you will be required to set up your password and access name. This is similar to setting up most other online services. Use an email address that is stable and that you will have for a long time, and select a password that you will remember. After entering this information and submitting your application, it will be reviewed.

Once your application is approved you will receive a block of HTML code that you will need to program into your website so that AdSense will be able to run and be able to be tracked on your website.

Benefits of AdSense

One of the most impressive advantages of AdSense is that Google has a huge database of advertisers that are looking for space. Because of this huge base of advertisers, AdSense can provide you with a steady stream of advertisers that can match just about any type of content that you can think of. Advertisers are segregated based on product, service, geography, and company size. This helps to both provide local advertisement opportunities to companies, as well as provide your site with relevant content.

Another no cost benefit that AdSense offers is the use of their Google search box technology. You can add this feature to your website, which will encourage visitors to stay at your website longer, and it will encourage them to return to your site. You can even earn money from this technology. When a visitor enters a keyword or keywords the results appear in a box at the top of your web page. You earn money for every ad that they click on that was generated from their search.

In addition to these benefits you also are able to control what kinds of ads that you want displayed on your website. You can filter out ads from specific company genres, and you can also filter out companies that compete with what you are trying to sell. You can also design the look of the ads that are displayed on your website. You can choose their color pallet, layout, and size of the ads that are displayed, and where they appear on your website. Finally, you can customize your AdSense to run on only certain pages of your website. All of these options allow you to stay in control of how AdSense is displayed to your customers.

Costs Associated With AdSense

There isn’t a fee to participate in AdSense, however, you do need to invest time in setting up AdSense features and filters. You will also have to pay for the design, hosting, and domain name of your website. These set up costs should be minimal depending on the complexity of your web site. There are free website hosting sites available, and often home page hosting is provided as a free service with your ISP. To determine if your ISP offers free hosting and web page design assistance you should contact your ISP representative.

Making the Most of Google Adsense Program

While most ads that promote this type of affiliate program boast of fast and easy money, if you truly want to make money with this program there is going to be substantial work involved. In order for you to make money, you will need to attract visitors to your website. To do this you will need to provide your viewers with quality content that appeals to a large audience. One popular way to do this is to provide a blog of current events, issues, opinion, commentary, etc. Another way is to produce original content that people will drool over. Be creative. There is a lot of competition out there, so learn how to produce content that will top the search engine results, and learn how to use keywords to your advantage in order to attract more viewers.

Making a blogging site

All right, let's back up. Before you begin to make money blogging, you will need to start blogging. Like I have said before, Blogging is like breathing, once you get started you can't stop. So I say why not make money doing something you love??!! The absolute easiest way to start is to go to Blogger They have made it extremely convenient. All they ask is for you to have a GMAIL account. So in order to do that you just go to Google mail and set up an account.

Next you click on create an account, enter your gmail account user name and password, pick a screen name for blogging (it can be anything including your own name) Then you will go to the next screen where it asks you for a blog title and a blog address. ( a place where people can find you on the internet) For this blogs purpose I chose a blog title of Rod's Blog and a web address of rodsnewblog.blogspot.com Not particularly ingenious but it will work for today.

Now they ask you to pick a template. Seems easy but it is always a difficult decision. But it is one you can change later. One piece of advise I can tell you is never use a black background with white lettering, it is hard to read. So go ahead, pick a template and then we can really get started.

Now Blogger will bring you to a blog window. Here is where you can actually start blogging, sharing your thoughts and insights with the world! If you can't wait to get going, that's OK you can always come back to the full set up later.

At the top of the blog box you will see tabs, POSTING, SETTINGS , LAYOUT. Click the settings tab for now. Here you will see Blog tools, Title, Description, Add you blog to our listing, Let search engines find your blog, Show quick editing on your blog, Show Email post links, Adult content and some global settings (this applies to all your blogs) Show Compose mode for all your blogs and Enable transliteration.

OK so you can just ignore the blog tools for now. So add a title, make it descriptive but short. Next there is the description: Use as many words as you can to describe your blog. The more descriptive the easier a time that Google and other search engines will have in finding your blog. K next is Add you blog to our listing. Click yes so that Blogger will list in on their site. This will make you easier to find too! Next is Let search engines find you: Definitely yes. The way to make money is to let Google, Yahoo, MSN and the other search engines find you so that people will read your blog and click on your ads!! Or even buy your stuff. K now we see show quick editing: this is good so that if you see a mistake you can fix it easily. Now we see show email post links: this also is good because the name of the game is to get the word out. Now there is Adult content: that is totally up to you. What are you talking about. Who knows it might peak peoples interest to see what's inside :) Now for the global settings. Show compose mode is helpful so go for it & enable transliteration: I think most internet explorers have their own translator but if you want to use it then go ahead.

Now if yo look up you will see a bunch of tabs starting with: Basic, Publishing, Formatting, Comments and so on. So click the Publishing tab. This gives you the option of publishing your blog on blogger or if you have your own domain then you can publish your blog there. (I like this idea because it is easier to optimize which means to make it easier for Google and the other search engines to find your blog) Now goto formatting: enter in all the information that pertains to you. (The more specific you are the better) Now goto comments. It is good to show comments because if people have questions you can answer them. (unless you don't expect any questions on your particular type of blog. Now we see Who can comment: I like to click anyone so that anyone can ask questions. you can fill out the rest of this tab according to your personal preference. The rest of the tabs are self explanatory so fill them all out and click on the layout tab.

Now we go to page elements: you can arrange your page pretty much however you want. You can add gadgets. ( i like gadgets!!) Just be sure to add google adsense. We will get to that tomorrow! Now click on fonts and colors. I like to use the ones that came with the template so let's keep going.
Click on edit HTML This is also important because you can add titles, keywords and meta tag descriptions. Huh? what? use this as a template and add descriptive words to it.

Just put the words between the ""  Again just be as descriptive as possible.  but this is important!  It will help Google see your blog!!  I will give you more about optimizing tomorrow!

So lastly for today the next tab is choose a new template.  This is where you can pick other templates.  Or even learn how to design your own.

Oh ya, and one more thing.  Fill out your profile.  The more information you post as it pertains to your blog the better.  Click on the dashboard button on the top right of the page and stat editing!  Have fun!

Making Money From A Blog

John Chow always has great info so here is some from how well he was doing in 2006!

I hit a couple of blogging milestones on Sunday. Along with setting a new one-day blog traffic record, I also set a new one-day blog income record. I posted the The World’s Most High-Tech Urinal on Saturday and it very quickly made the Digg front page. Then on Sunday, Slashdot, Fark, Engadget, Gizmodo, eBaum’s World, USA Today, and a ton of other blogs picked up the story. That helped propel the blog to a record 57,426 unique visitors and 64,305 page views. Here’s a break down on what all this means.

Record Blog Earnings

Back in September I posted The Internet’s Biggest Google Whore and set a one-day traffic record of 55,856 page views, which translated to $95.13 in blog income. Since then, I’ve been tweaking the blog’s advertising setup to increase its performance. Here’s the Sunday breakdown.

* Google AdSense: $160.18
* Vibrant IntelliTXT: $157.86
* TTZ Media: $99.49
* Total: $417.53

That is quite an improvement over the last big traffic day. I did just 8,449 extra page views, yet the blog income went up $322.40. This is the power of tweaking. It is not enough to just slap on a few Google ads and expect them to perform right out the gate. You have to play around with colors, placements, number of ads, etc.

Breaking down the AdSense number is truly revealing. I have always stated that the best performing AdSense unit is the 300×250 square. However, I have never given exact income figures on each ad units because I’m not sure how Google feels about me revealing that kind of information. Well, I’ve decided to reveal that information. If Google doesn’t like it, they can tell me to remove it. Of the $160.18 the Google ads made, $123.44 of it came from the 300×250 AdSense unit. If you’re not running a square ad unit on your blog, you’re losing out big time!

I am very happy with the performance of the TTZ Media shopping ads. They outperformed (by over 3 times) the Google 468 that uses to be there. I was barely getting 50 cents eCPM out of the bottom Google AdSense unit. Sometimes, in order to increase overall revenue, you need to remove or replace a low performing ad unit. The bottom Google 468 wasn’t cutting it. Replacing it with a TTZ Media ad was a logical move.

Taking the Sunday blog income and dividing by the Sunday page views results in a site wide eCPM of $6.49. That is significantly higher than the $3.77 posted in my October Recap. So far this month, site wide eCPM is running at $8.50, and that doesn’t include the income from text link sales. As I’ve stated before, this is the power of tweaking. I now make more than twice as much for the same level of traffic.

Slashdot Still Rules

Digg maybe the new kid in town, but when it comes to sending an ungodly amount of traffic, very few sites can beat Slashdot.

Looking at the above Google Analytics pie chart, you can see that Slashdot accounted for 33.35% of all visitors - well ahead of Digg’s 15.24%. eBaum’s World beating out Digg for 2nd place was the big surprise. I had no idea that site can send so much traffic. However, Slashdot still sent more traffic than eBaum and Digg put together.

While Digg now gets up to twice the traffic of Slashdot, Slashdot will still send you more traffic if you get a story on their front page. The reason for this is simple. Digg has hundreds of stories travel through their front page everyday. Slashdot has just a dozen or so. That means a Slashdot story stays on the front page a lot longer - sometimes more than a full day. Depending on how fast Digg is moving, a Dugg story can fall off the front page within a few hours.

Unique Content Drives Traffic

I get asked so many times, “How do I get traffic to my blog?” The answer is so simple – write unique content! Look at what one unique article did for this blog; 15,000+ page views on Saturday, 64,000+ page views on Sunday, 30,000+ page views so far today. Unique content drives traffic. Unique content will get you slashdotted and Dugg. Unique content will bump your RSS to 4000+. Sure, you can build a blog with free articles or by recycling news, but the chances of making $400 per day doing that is pretty slim.

Creating unique content isn’t that hard. You just need to be creative and keep your eyes open. I came up with the high-tech urinal story when I saw a small burp about it in Maclean’s magazine. It was interesting enough for me to track down the manufacturer so I can get those photos and video to write the story. I wrote up the story in 15 minutes and it will probably make over $1,000 before all is said and done. That’s not bad for 15 minutes of work.

The Numbers Could Have Been Better

Weekends are notoriously bad for traffic. The best traffic day is Monday, which was the day the Google Whore article hit. Even with the help of every major news sites, my urinal story only beat the whore story by 8,449 page views because it hit on the weekend. Had the story hit on a Monday, traffic would have been 2 to 3 times higher, and the blog might have its first $1,000 day. Oh well, can’t win them all.
